Deanna Renteria (UW-Whitewater at Rock County Student)

My name is Deanna Renteria and I was born in Beloit Wisconsin. I attended Beloit Memorial High School and graduated in 2019. After high school I attended UW Whitewater at Rock County where I received my associates degree in December of 2021.
During my time at Rock County I was involved in various extracurricular activities. My freshman year I was in the chess club and a political organization. Our goal that year was to increase voter registration on our campus. We partnered with the League of Women Voters of Janesville to spread voter advocacy. I was a student worker for the TRIO/ Learning Support Center. My sophomore year I was a peer mentor to incoming freshmen. In 2021 I became involved with the League of Women Voters of Beloit. I volunteered to serve at various booths and events around town. As a League member protecting, and informing individuals about their voter rights is of utmost importance. Being bilingual allowed me to help connect and empower wider democratic in my community about their voting rights. In 2022 I had the honor of being one of the guest speakers for the League of Women Voters “Forward Together” event for the Beloit and Janesville chapters. At this online event I got to share my experience and perspective on the importance of voting as a young adult. In the Fall of 2021 I was a student worker in the Solution Center at UW Whitewater Rock County as well as a member of Hawksquad. As a member of HawkSquad we helped welcome new students during the University’s SOAR event. I was a senator on student government at UWW Rock County as well as a member of Latinos Unidos. In the fall of 2022 I volunteered with a Book Buddies program in Whitewater Wisconsin.
I am currently completing my History B.A. and double minoring in Spanish and Legal Studies at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater.
