YWCA Rock County is raising money to make improvements to child care space

Categories: News Releases

Janesville, Wisconsin – As a new school year begins, YWCA Rock County’s child care program is once again in full swing.

As we look to the future, we want to make sure we continue to offer a space that meets the needs of our young participants. With that in mind, we are raising money to re-do the flooring in the child care space at our main YWCA location, 1735 S. Washington St., Janesville.

The main location houses our 4-year-old Kindergarten program (P4J), as well as programs that are held when school is not in session, such as summer break and weather-related school closings.

Right now, half of the child care room has tile flooring, the other half is carpeted. The flooring undergoes regular cleaning, but due to its age and regular wear and tear, it needs to be replaced. The flooring is original to the building, which is around 15-years-old.

The main location can serve up to 50 kids at a time, and is often at capacity for non-school weekdays and discovery day camp during the summer.

As a non-profit, YWCA Rock County relies heavily on community support. To help raise money for new flooring, YWCA Rock County’s child care staff is holding a fundraiser at Lucy’s Hideaway in Milton on September 17 from 6 – 9 p.m.

“We wanted to do something fun, where people could have a date night or a night out with friends and help out a great cause at the same time,” said Courtney Franson, YWCA Child Care Program Director.

The event is free and open to the public, and will feature a 50/50 raffle, drawings for prizes and live music. The kitchen at Lucy’s Hideaway will be open for food orders during the fundraiser. Donations are also accepted online at www.ywcarockcounty.org.

YWCA Rock County’s mission is to eliminate racism and empower women. By offering child care, we are helping families put the focus on their economic well-being, by offering safe and reliable care for their children.

The YWCA child care program serves families throughout Rock County, offering flexible options. Along with the YWCA’s main child care location, we also operate 10 before and after school sites in Janesville, and two sites in Milton.
