Beloit, Wisconsin – Lack of reliable transportation can be a major hurdle when it comes to retaining a job. YWCA Rock County, through the Economic Empowerment Center, provides assistance by supplying clients with bus tokens or gas cards.
To receive benefits, which are distributed on a monthly basis, applicants must meet certain criteria linked to their income and employment. In 2019, YWCA Rock County provided approximately $16,000 in transportation assistance to qualified candidates.
Lack of reliable transportation can not only be a detriment to those who already have a job, but also to those seeking employment. Thanks to a newly-awarded grant from the Beloit-based Stateline Community Foundation, YWCA Rock County will be able to expand the transportation assistance program to include some job-seekers.
The $2,500 grant will help cover costs of offering assistance to job-seekers who either live in Beloit, or are looking for a job in Beloit.
“We hope by offering this expanded program, we can remove at least some of the barriers for people who are struggling to find employment,” said Marissa Simpson, Interim-Director, Transitions.
Much like the current transportation assistance offered to employed clients, job-seekers hoping to receive assistance through the expanded program will be evaluated based through an application process. For more information on the program, or to see if you qualify, please email email@example.com.
