Domestic violence transitional housing offers survivors a place to stay for 12-18 months. Survivors in the program work through extensive case management with trauma recovery and support from our staff. The program helps empower survivors and their children in becoming more self-sufficient.

Transitions Services Provided

Twice a month, survivors in our program will meet with the Director and Assistant Director to review goals, progress, and needs. At least twice a month, clients will participate in trauma group and/or individual sessions. They can receive case management services for themself and their children and referrals to community resources as needed.

  • You will participate in the Trauma and the 12 Steps program at least twice a month either through individual sessions or in group.

  • You will meet with the Director once a month to review goals, needs, and any concerns.

  • You will also be connected with case managers if you and/or your children need any resources.

Transitions Eligibility Requirements

Transitions is not a perfect fit for everyone. It is a program designed for domestic violence survivors who are ready and highly motivated to change their lives.

Here is a list of the eligibility requirements:

  1. You are homeless.

  2. You are a survivor of domestic violence.

  3. You have been separated from your abuser for a minimum of 30 days.

  4. You are eligible to receive Section 8 housing (no felony charges, etc.).

  5. You are capable of obtaining electrical service through Alliant Energy in your own name.

  6. You are not currently in a relationship, and you will commit to not becoming involved in a relationship for the 12 month period of time you in Transitions for Women program.

  7. You understand that your home is for you and your children and that approved guests are welcome only during special approved circumstances.

  8. You understand that economic empowerment is a journey that begins with a job. You are currently employed or are committed to being employed or furthering your education while you participate.

  9. You pride yourself in the example you set for your children by having a home that is drug free, alcohol free, and violence free.
