Blackhawk Technical College Culinary and Hospitality program lead Hakim Salaam brings more than 30 years of professional experience in the culinary arts, hospitality, education, and foodservice management industries. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of culinary, supervisory, and restaurant management positions, building a strong foundation in leadership, operations, menu development, team training, and customer service excellence. Hakim holds two Associate degrees in Culinary Arts and Business Management from Nicolet Area Technical College, a Bachelor’s degree in Food and Beverage Business Management from New England Culinary Institute, and a Master’s degree in Education from University of Wisconsin–Stout.

Prior to joining Blackhawk Technical College, Hakim directed food operations for MercyHealth in Janesville, overseeing large-scale foodservice production, staff leadership, and operational efficiency. In his current role, he is dedicated to developing future culinary and hospitality professionals through hands-on instruction, mentorship, and industry-driven curriculum development. Beyond the classroom, Hakim actively supports culinary education statewide through service on the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation board and as a PROSTART culinary coach for Janesville Parker High School and Beloit Memorial High School, helping students build technical skills, professionalism, confidence, and pathways into successful hospitality careers.
