YWCA Rock County announces partnership with Adorn Boutique

Janesville, Wisconsin – YWCA Rock County is excited to announce a rewarding and unique partnership with Margie Siggelkow, owner of Adorn Boutique in Janesville. Margie approached the YWCA Rock County with a unique proposal to offer an empowering opportunity that would provide employment opportunities to women in circumstances that might make employment difficult. Margie’s goal for Adorn Boutique was to provide women living in domestic violence and homeless shelters a safe, fun and empowering work environment where they also make a living wage. Her idea to do this was through a program named “Headstand Accessories.”“Headstand Accessories” mission is to make affordable and trendy hair accessories that are made out of sustainable materials and have a low impact on our environment while offering employment opportunities to clients of YWCA’s Domestic Violence Program. YWCA Rock County participants learn basic sewing skills of cutting, pinning and sewing a straight line while working in a safe space all while being employed by Adorn Janesville Boutique. The Janesville Women’s Club was very generous to provide the program their space for the first month.Kayla Hanson, the Program Director for Transitional Housing for YWCA Rock County commented that “Currently through the Transitions program, we are able to assist 4 clients with part time jobs sewing and putting together headbands through the Headstand project run by Adorn Boutique. Our clients have been extremely grateful to have a part-time job accessible down the street from their home. They gained the experience of learning a new task of machine and hand sewing, which allowed them to take up any other skills and jobs for the future. As clients of our Transitions Program, they are currently experiencing homelessness from domestic violence and needing assistance with economic independence. The opportunity with the Headstand project through Adorn Boutique has been an amazing experience to give these adults who currently did not have a job or were seeking other employment to open up their job skills.”Participants in the program are already benefiting from this partnership. “I’ve gained so much from this. I have so much support doing this, and it is such an awesome opportunity for someone in this situation” – Program Participant.Another participant in this program commented “I just love this. I am going to work. I’m going to work. I just kept saying that all morning, because it felt so good.”These beautiful hair accessories can be purchased at Adorn Boutique located at 39 S Main St, Janesville, WI 53545 or online at https://www.headstandaccessories.com/.
