YWCA Rock County Recipient of United Way Grant

Janesville, Wisconsin – YWCA Rock County is pleased to be the recipient of a $462,526, two-year grant from United Way Blackhawk Region. The community grant is made possible by the United Way and its donors.“The ongoing support from United Way Blackhawk Region helps advance YWCA Rock County’s mission, which is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women,” said Angela Moore, YWCA Rock County Executive Director.The $462,526 grant will help fund all five of YWCA Rock County’s programs over the next two years. The programs, outlined below, help people throughout the county.-Immigrant Outreach and Racial Justice: This programming assists families with language barriers, employment issues, citizenship, self-sufficiency resources and domestic violence prevention. YWCA Rock County also offers community educational programs meant to help dismantle racism and support diverse populations.-Child Care: Our program, which serves 700 children each year, is state-certified and licensed. Child care is provided before and after school, as well as on non-school days. YWCA Rock County also offers pre-k classes and a summer discovery camp.-Alternatives to Violence: This 33-bed shelter offers a safe space for someone who is in crisis. Shelter residents are provided basic necessities, legal advocacy, case management and recovery resources. We also offer a 24-hour help line, which is staffed 365 days a year.-Transitions: Domestic violence survivors receive a place to stay for an extended period of time and receive care management as they work to get back on their feet.-CARE House: The CARE House is the only child advocacy center in Rock County. It provides a safe space for abused children to be interviewed by law enforcement and other agencies. Those interviews are then used in court.“The money will help fund resources throughout the YWCA programs,” said Moore. “That includes helping staff the 24-hour help line, providing funding for a child/family advocate to help young victims who utilize our CARE House, as well as, funding to continue the Racial Justice program and its initiatives.”
